Colorado has NO shortage of incredible locations for any type of photos. We seriously do have it all here: mountains, lakes, open fields, you name it. So it can be hard to narrow down what spots are the best places to elope in Colorado, or to take your Colorado engagement photos at! That’s why I wanted to give you 7 of my favorite locations for your Colorado engagement photos!
For each location, I’ve included info about the scenery + landscape it has to offer, details about the location, & more. I suggest picking the top 2-3 locations you love & are vibing with, and then we can plan specifics from there (depending on the season, weather, etc.)! So let’s get right into it, shall we?!
*Full disclosure: I won’t be giving you super-specific locations, since I reserve those for my couples who book me. We like to make sure we keep locations sacred & protected from any tourist damage over here, so once you book me, that’s when you’ll get alllll my knowledge & expertise!*
1. Loveland Pass
Location deets
Distance from Denver: 60 miles west
Distance from Aspen: 150 miles northeast
Distance from Durango: 300 miles northeast
The landscape
Loveland Pass is a classically beautiful Colorado mountain pass, you can’t really beat it. It’s got gorgeous mountain views, a super scenic drive, and green alpine meadows!
Fun facts + other information
Loveland Pass is technically open year-round, but can get pretty dangerous in the winter and roads will often get shut down. So this is not a spot to visit during the winter - there’s been a few avalanches in the past and that is not what we want for your session!
This is the location for you if. . .
You want a classic Colorado location with gorgeous mountain ranges full of greens & blues
You want the opportunity to go on hikes nearby after your session is over - or you want to hike during your session!

Distance from Denver: 80 miles west
Distance from Aspen: 140 miles northeast
Distance from Durango: 270 miles northeast
The landscape
Breckenridge is actually a tiny mountain town that sits at the base of the Tenmile Range of the Rockies. I love it because it’s got access to tons of beautiful nearby spots that don’t require lots of hiking! You can visit spots with mountain views, open grassy fields, hit up the Dillon Ice Castles, or find gorgeous alpine lakes.
Fun facts + other information
Since Breckenridge is a lil’ mountain town, there’s plenty to do in the area! You can go skiing, visit local restaurants + breweries, go on mine tours, you name it. Location deets

Distance from Aspen: 165 miles northeast
Distance from Durango: 370 miles northeast
The landscape
RMNP is an obvious one that I had to include!! From waterfalls to wide-open fields to alpine meadows to valleys to mountain ranges, you won’t be short of incredible views within the park!
If you already know you’d LOVE to go to RMNP, and are maybe considering eloping there, I’ve got a whole guide for you on How to Elope in Rocky Mountain National Park!!
Fun facts + other information
RMNP is open year-round, weather permitting. Know that most sites in the park are much more secluded in the winter + on weekdays. Less crowds = the best! You’ll want to make sure to do your research ahead of time on locations to see which ones are closed in the winter and check current road + trail statuses on the NPS website.
This is the location for you if. . .
You want to adventure around a national park together

4. Great Sand Dunes National Park
Location deets
Distance from Denver: 240 miles south
Distance from Aspen: 270 miles southeast
Distance from Durango: 165 miles northeast
The landscape
The name pretty much says it all - this national park is full of super beautiful sand dunes, with mountain ranges in the background! It’s such a unique location since it’s not all desert, and you can see the mountains in the distance. Definitely a different location than what you might expect when you think of Colorado!
Fun facts + other information
These dunes are actually the tallest dunes in North America!! Colorado provides such a freaking diverse landscape and this is the perfect example of that. The park is open year-round, but in the winter there’s usually some snow on the dunes (it looks super cool, but usually melts fast). I also love the dunes because there are multiple camping options, so you can stay a night or two in the park!!
Another super fun thing you can do here - sand sledding!!
This is the location for you if. . .

You’d like to camp under the stars after your session
